Dancer: Yannicklebrun, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre
What career would you choose if you could not be a dancer? YL: If I was not a dancer I would be involved in an organization where speaking different languages is a must. I also love traveling around the world. What is your worst fear (professionally or personally)? YL: My worst fears on a professional level are to not be able to touch and inspire people when I'm performing. On a personal level I would say to feel to be totally disconnected from my family. Which person (dead or alive) would you most want to dance with if you could? YL: I would love to have the opportunity to share the stage with one of my biggest inspirations, Desmond Richardson. If a child told you they wanted to be a dancer, what would your advice be? YL: If a child told me they wanted to be a dancer, my advice would be to keep training in as many techniques as possible, wot work hard and be disciplined and finally to never lose focus on their passion: the love for dance. If you could be an animal, which one would you choose and why? YL: If I could be an animal, I would be a Blue Morpho Butterfly from French Guiana. The Blue Morphos are amongst the largest butterflies in the world and live the tropical forests. Humans most commonly see Morphos in clearings and along streams and rivers where their bright blue wings are most visible. It's an animal that never goes unnoticed. What is your greatest indulgence? YL: Besides going home to the French Guiana once a year to recharge my batteries and listening to the sounds of nature, my greatest indulgence would be to observe and be inspired by the different cultures and musics that surround me and taste different kinds of food, as I travel and explore the world. What 3 items do you always have in your bag with you? YL: I always have hand sanitizer, lotion and favorite: the "beats" headphones in my bag. What is your idea of perfect happiness? YL: My idea of happiness is to feel free, to be able to enjoy every moment in life without any regrets, to always go for what I'm passionate about without any judgement and finally to have a family that loves you unconditionally. Who would you like most to have a coffee with (could be dead or alive)? YL: If I could have a coffee with anyone it would be definitely Alvin Ailey if he was still alive, not sure if he enjoyed coffee that much, but I would have so many questions to ask him. Also Christiane Taubira who is currently the Minister of Justice of France (born in French Guiana). She was the driving force behind a May 21st 2001 law (the Taubira law) that recognizes the Atlantic slave trade and slavery as a crime against humanity and she is the reason why France is now the 14th nation in the world to allow gay couples to marry. What is your favorite city to tour to and why? YL: My favorite place to tour besides Paris of course, would have to be Tel Aviv, Israel, where I had some of the most unique experiences of my life. Is there a special meal you have before performances? YL: I don't really have a special meal I eat before performances, but I always make sure to have a banana ready right before.
